TikTok Parent ByteDance accuses social media giant Facebook of ‘plagiarism and smears’

China’s ByteDance, the owner of short video making app TikTok, took aim at Facebook in a statement that accused the social media giant of “plagiarism and smears.”

The Chinese firm also said it faced “complex and unimaginable difficulties” as it worked to grow into a global company.

The Beijing-based company made the comments in a statement late on Sunday posted on its official account.

As per the latest inputs, US President Donald Trump has agreed to give China’s ByteDance 45 days to negotiate a sale of TikTok to Microsoft Corp.

US officials have asserted that TikTok, under its Chinese parent, poses a national risk because of the personal data it handles. However, TikTok has repeatedly denied that it does this.
