The central government is planning to bring a new law to keep the Ganga river clean and pollution-free, Hindustan Times reported.
A draft of the proposed law is currently being vetted by several authorities, people familiar with the matter said.
The proposed law will not only set down legal obligations to prevent pollution, but also fix biological as well as effluent parameters, as per the news report.
It should be mentioned here that the river is currently facing pressures from both human and economic activities that affect its water quality.
Untreated domestic wastewater along the river and its tributaries lead to over 80% of the pollution in the holy river.
